The Importance of Preventive Care
Pets age at a faster rate than people. Routine exams are a great way to help your pet achieve optimal health by focusing on prevention and early disease detection.
Exams are critical to helping your dog or cat maintain good long-term physical health.
What Happens at a Routine Exam?
We will conduct a physical exam of your pet which generally consists of any or all of the following:
- Checking the weight and body condition
- Checking overall attitude of your pet
- Listening to your pet’s heart & lungs
- Checking lymph nodes
- Examining eye’s for signs of discharge, redness, cloudiness or eyelid concerns
- Checking skin & coat for dryness, parasites or lumps.
- Examining feet & nails
- Examining ears for signs of infection, mites, discharge or polyps
- Examining mouth and teeth, looking for signs of tartar buildup, infection, damage, tooth decay or periodontal disease
- Palpating the abdomen to see if internal organs appear normal and check for signs of discomfort
- Feeling along the body for hints of illness including swelling, evidence of lameness or signs of discomfort.
Seniors
With recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, as well as newer therapies and better nutrition, geriatric dogs and cats continue to live longer than ever.
As your pet ages, regular wellness examinations become increasingly important to ensure their continuing health and longevity.
In addition to the annual routine procedures we perform on all adult pets, we will give special attention to your senior pet’s potential age-related conditions, such as arthritis or decreased vision. Additional laboratory tests will also provide information about your geriatric pet’s overall health.
